The Glaucoma Clinical Dataset (GCD) has been developed through the Do Once and Share (DOAS) Glaucoma Project. It is described as a product of multi-professional clinical and patient input and professional body involvement. It has been led and managed by the DOAS Glaucoma Action Team.

Glaucoma is a chronic disease and necessitates life-long follow-up. Left untreated the natural history of the disease is for progressive visual field loss, leading to irreversible blindness.

The primary purpose of the GCD is to support and facilitate consistent, high quality patient care meeting professional body (e.g. RCOphth) approved clinical standards for glaucoma management at each stage of the care pathway. It represents the core clinical record, documenting the clinical management and care provided that would be expected for good clinical practice and facilitating communication and sharing of clinical information within and between clinical teams managing glaucoma.
